I’m sad that we still lack the sense to connect macro economic factors and systemic dysfunction in the financial sector to everyday life. Like energy prices, every exchange of money everyday is deeply colored by these issues.
I understand they are abstractions, but since they are at the core of modern life, shouldn’t we grasp them and use them to inform politics? It’s easy to blame an education system that teaches neither civics or finance, or a media that chases ratings rather than raises issues with careful thought, but in the end, we all are responsible for not connecting the world we live into a functional worldview.
